About Me.

A journalist from the age of 19 when I left home in Portsmouth to take up the role of trainee on the Northavon Gazette in Bristol, I have more than 30 years of experience working in the newspaper industry. Those early days at the Gazette formed the perfect platform for a career which also saw me working at The Derby Telegraph, The Swindon Advertiser, The Yorkshire Evening Post, The Yorkshire Post, and finally The Harrogate Advertiser and Scarborough News.

Constantly looking to develop my skills, my different reporting roles over the years have seen me cover a wide range of subjects from crime to court, health to business, and education to sport. Making the switch to football reporting in 1998, I followed the fortunes of Swindon Town in the old Division One for two seasons before securing a dream move to the Premier League covering Leeds United for The Yorkshire Evening Post. Home, away and across Europe, my time covering Leeds United also coincided with the 2002 World Cup in Japan where I was sent to report back on our bid for glory with the golden generation… which was sadly brought to an abrupt halt by a Ronaldinho-inspired Brazil.

A move to The Yorkshire Post as Chief Football Writer after the World Cup saw me witness first hand the financial collapse of Leeds United, while also reporting on the troubles at Bradford City, Huddersfield Town, York City, and the successes of Sheffield United under Neil Warnock. Taking on the position of Sports Editor of The Yorkshire Post in 2004, I remained in position for more than a decade, a period which also included me taking on responsibility for The Yorkshire Evening Post in 2012.

The growing need for a more digital approach to the newsroom saw me recruited to head up the new-look The Yorkshire Post website and manage the Yorkshire-wide digital operation across our associated weekly and daily titles. It was a role which laid the foundations for the modern-day digital operation which is now in place at The Yorkshire Post and across the county. Digital remained a key part of my focus when I moved to The Harrogate Advertiser for the chance to run my own newspaper title and its associated website. A role which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Now I want to make good use of my experience within the industry by helping you to hit your targets, to reach your goals or even if it is just to make sure your story is heard by those who need to hear it.
